It is now easier than ever to make your way to the beautiful beach town of
Tamarindo. Not only is Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia less than one hour away it is now offering non stop flights from the US, Canada, and Europe.
The Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport(LIR) was built in 1995, and was designed to service Costa Rica’s northwest (Pacific) coast. Quick popularity and a growing number of daily arrivals have made an expansion necessary, prompting airport officials and managers to begin soliciting investments. The airport has been approved for an expansion project for a $35 million terminal which will be able to handle 1,500 passengers simultaneously.
For this new year 2011, the number of visitors are expected to double to more than 180,000. Weekly flights at LIR are expected to go from 13 to 34, starting this month. The increase in the number of flights is the result of the opening of a new route by Grupo Taca between San Jose and Liberia, another one by Air Canada from Toronto, and a third option by U.S. Airways, which will start in February 2011. The airport is also extending its operating hours from 6 am to 8 pm, with the possibility of closing at 10 pm for any delayed flights.
Currently there are 15 airlines operating out of LIR; 11 nonstop flights per week; and LIR connects with 11 cities nonstop. For one stop airfare shopping check out:
