Jim Morris Concert Series at Tamarindo Amphitheater

Tuesday, April 19th, 2011

Jim Morris a verbose singer/songwriter with a style reminiscent of Jimmy Buffet will be here in Playa Tamarindo April 30-May 6, 2011. The concert series will include shows both at the amphitheater and kicked back by the pool, as well as dinner & show combo’s at the Tropical Garden Pool and Restaurante Matapalo.

Jim Morris has released one album every year since his  first recording, “Laid Back and Key Wasted,” released in 1996 by Fish Head Music. One of Jim’s more popular albums, “Bocanuts,” was released in 1997 and exposed a formula that Jim was really very proud of: “some tropical, some jazz, some country, some acoustic folk, and some humor. It certainly reflects my musical tastes,” Morris admits.

Jim is now directing his efforts to expanding his fan base and touring with the Big Bamboo Band. He will still make time to fish and will always be on the lookout for song material.

We very much look forward to having Jim and many of his traveling fans at the resort and hope that everyone will come and enjoy!

Special feature at the Diria Amphitheater: Snow White & the 7 Dwarfs

Sunday, December 5th, 2010

Beach Nuts Theater Co. & Amigos De La Educacion present Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs at Hotel Tamarindo Diria Beach & Golf Resort Amphitheater. The very anticipated opening night is right around the corner and my family and I can’t wait!

There is so much buzz around town about the performers, costumes, and set; it’s going to be quite the show! We would expect nothing but spectacular from Director, Paul Belanger, who is a noted actor and director from Canada. Paul also directed Peter Pan and Cinderella both of which had a very positive community response.

Snow White is  going to be a local explosion of exquisite costumes by Kata Kiss, fanciful sets created by Lydia Beech, creative choreography by Christi Lalonde, and groovy tunes from Tamarindo Music Studio. Locals from every arena are involved in this production making it a real community event.

Caralee Burton, mother of three and resident of Portrero is thrilled with the theater group. Caralee divulges  “I was so pleased to come across a program like this…something that my 5 and 7 year old can participate in…of course, surf and sun is great, but what I really want is for them to gain the skills that a program like this can offer, such as group work, collaboration, patience, imagination, and community support.”

According to Americansforthearts.com, “Increasingly, ‘controlled’ studies reveal a powerful, positive relationship between study in the arts and other academic subjects, attitudes, and behaviors.Dramatic play appears to increase tendencies of early elementary school children to be thorough and explicit in their conveying of stories critical to success in school settings where these skills are required in written and oral language activities.” Nothing but good can come from this increasingly popular theater group. Good for kids. Good for community. Good for Tamarindo.

Our community has actively responded to this relatively new theater group growing from 10 members to 50 in just 3 productions. The theater group brings people of all ages together from multiple areas, including Tamarindo, Flamingo, Portrero, and Brasilito. During their months of play rehearsals Paul has watched “children work together and support one another.” Paul says, “Every time I direct a play I get to see people who are excited about being involved. The idea is that community theater is alive and well in Tamarindo and the goal is to keep it going for a long time.” The huge turn out at past performances is a great indicator that this theater group is here to stay.

Rumor has it that this production of Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs is interactive, so don’t get too cozy! If you are in the audience then you are in the show. Get ready to “boo” and “hooray” your way to a fun filled evening not soon to be forgotten.
