C osta Rica has a tropical climate with two very distinct seasons. The Green Season runs from May to October and the Gold Season is from November to April. During the Green Season there is typically a rain shower late in the afternoon producing lush tropical forests with spectacular sunsets countrywide, then clear evening skies full of stars.

There are no hurricanes in the area. During the Gold Season virtually no rain falls turning the landscape into deep golden brown hues. Temperatures vary primarily with elevation and not with the season. On the coasts, the weather remains warm and in the mountains, it stays cool throughout the year. In the Guanacaste region, the Gold Season lasts several weeks longer than any other parts of Costa Rica with the country’s lowest rain fall. Here, the temperature does not vary at all throughout the year and remains at an average of 26°C (86° F) in the shade and up to 32°C (94°F) from the direct sun. Evenings are fresh with a nice sea breeze never making it necessary to wear a jacket. |
