Descriptions
It is large and weighs around 24 to 65 kg. His head is small and has long legs. The dorsal area varies from golden brown to a deep reddish color. The belly is white or cream colored. His ears are long and pointed, the tail is long and slender with a black tip. And the off springs are spotted with dark brown circular markings. Hi is solitary and terrestrial, is timid and cautious.
Males has large ranges within which one or more females may live, and during the time of reproduction the they mew in a similar way to a cat, and females has a period of gestation of 13 weeks. Is considered in danger of extinction, and is also protected by the Wildlife Conservation Law, number 7.317, of 1992, included in Appendix I of CITES of Costa Rica.
Feeding
It is a carnivorous animal, that mainly feeds of a variety of animals, like opossums, howler monkeys, spider monkeys, spine pocket mice, and iguanas.
Distribution
It is a feline that is mostly all the American continent, from southern Canada and United States, to southern Argentina. In Costa Rica it is found at all altitudes up to 3.300 m.
